The Orme School of Arizona is a private boarding and day elementary, middle and high school in Mayer, Arizona. It is located along Ash Creek and surrounded by public land and an operating cattle ranch. Its symbol is the "Quarter Circle V Bar", a name once used for the school and cattle ranch. In 1929, it began as a one-room school with seven students from the area's ranches; today, it enrolls some 187 students from 25 U.S. states and 16 countries. The international students comprise more than 40% of the school's enrollment[2] Many of the international parents send their students here to master the English language and possibly go to an American college. The school's boys' basketball team won the Arizona Interscholastic Association 1A state title in 2011 with a starting lineup composed of two Turkish students, one from England, one from Switzerland, and one from China.
The school's site is so remote that the nearest Walmart store is some 45 minutes away.[3]
